A French ski-mountaineer died after being swept away by an avalanche in Italy's northwestern
Alps. The man was overrun by the avalanche early Tuesday at an altitude of about 2,750 meters
(9,000 feet) while traveling with a group of ski-mountaineers.

Rescuers on Thursday found the bodies of five French ski mountaineers who had been missing
since they were swept away by an avalanche in Italy's northwestern Alps. A single survivor
was in critical condition in a hospital. The bodies were spotted by helicopter shortly after
dawn following a suspension of the search overnight because of darkness and bad weather.
